On Repeat: Marina And The Diamonds

This chick is going to be HUGE.  Yesterday we filmed her for mtvU and later saw the show at the Perez Hilton Party, and she rocked the house with her chilling voice.  I wish I could give you more SXSW updates at this point but I finally need some rest.  I'll be filling you in on all the juicy details this week!  For now, enjoy my favorite new act of SXSW!

Life. Is. Good.

After 4 years and 100 bands, this may have been one of the best SXSW night I've had.  I ended up solo at She & Him (the line was so long, my usual suspects gave up), and although you could tell Zooey and M. Ward were still working out kinks, they sounded amazing.  Volume Two is going to be killer.  Zooey is just as sweet as pie as you would think she is, and M. is shy in front of all the hype.  I can not WAIT to film them tomorrow.

Next up was Stone Temple Pilots.  Holy shit.  Scott's voice is crystal clear and their sound was right on point.  You don't get that much at the bars during SXSW, because bands are given so little time to tweak & play, and let me tell you, this town runs right on schedule (unlike most shows).  STP rocked the house, and myself for that matter.  Best part?  When freakin' Robby Krieger, The Doors guitarist, came out and played Roadhouse Blues for the encore.

And that was not the end of my night, next up--The XX.  Forty-five minutes later we got in, and right on time.  Trust me, if you roll with me you'll be taken to the right restaurants, shows, parties, and only a few lines interspersed.

At first, the sound was horrible for The XX, but mid-show all was resolved and I was enjoying the show immensely.  Seriously soothing beats and a major up-and-comer in the indie world.

Life is good here in Austin, and I'm happy to be here with the best mentor, crew, food, weather and music anyone could ask for.

Broken Bells, Spoon & Miike Snow

Tonight's the official launch of SXSW Music 2010.  And I have hardly an ounce of energy left--and it's only the first day.  Today we shot Seabear, Shadow Shadow Shade and Class Actress.  I saw Broken Bells last week but just had to see them again...and the rest of my crew was just as impressed.  After Spoon (I've never been a big fan), I was dragged to Miike Snow, and unbeknownst to me this band is right up my alley.  Can't wait to shoot them on Friday.

Girl got STYLE

Kate Moss.  She's a cliched fashion icon, and I dig her style just like the rest of you. Her arm candy is most likely a rock star and her outfits never fail.

Broken Bells: First Show Amazes Brooklyn

Holy crap. The Broken Bells better be here to stay.

The collaboration includes the masterminds of Danger Mouse and James Mercer (lead singer of The Shins), and a tight backing band.  I was uber impressed, and these guys are going to continue to amaze this year as their tour rolls out.  I'll be sure to check out their SXSW performance at the Stubbs - NPR showcase on March 17th.

Girl got STYLE

For my own fashion inspiration for the Spring, I've been perusing some of the best celeb looks from festivals past.  Somehow these ladies just make it look so damn cool.

Foxy Lady, I'm Coming To Get You

Get ready for it...never before heard Jimi Hendrix is coming out of the vault.  March 9th.  This is the first album I've ever pre-ordered from itunes before, so enjoy the first single!  We can also look forward to several more tracks in the future...crazy, psychedelic, and straight from the grave, right?!

JAYZ My Nizzle

Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil' Wayne.  I hadn't heard of half of these guys until last night.  And isn't Lil' Wayne supposed to be in jail?  Even though I was hoping for an Alicia Keys or Rhianna guest appearance, the show last night at MSG was amazeballs, and the graphics on the backdrop were killer.

The highlight of the show was when Jay-Z took it back to the 90's with "99 Problems" and "Big Pimpin,'" and finally "Empire State of Mind"--there's no question he has much love for his hometown, and it felt special to be a part of it.  This man can point to anyone in the audience and command them to his every will, but he takes none of it for granted.  A true musical God.

OK Go Does It Again

Lots of buzz on this one.  It defintiely beats the treadmill, and we film geeks love this because it's one take!  The song's not bad either, not bad at all.
